So, this post could either be titled: "Amy's terrific tumble" or "Amy's stay on the prison ward of the Trauma Unit"

Let me explain, my legs have been very weak lately because that's where I've lost the most weight through this ordeal. (I love my new weight but trust me this is not the weight loss plan that you want to try out.) In addition we have an uneven sidewalk leading into our apartment. Well, I tripped, fell, and hit my jaw on the first step leading into our apartment. I am fine today I just look like I was in a really good fight. I have a bruise on my jaw - looks like I took a good left hook from someone boxing. Other than scraped up knees and elbows I'm fine though - it could have been a lot worse.

So that's the story of the fall.

Part 2: We called the bone marrow floor (the clinic had closed by this point) and they wanted me to come to the ER because I was bleeding in my mouth (with low platelets any bleeding is a concern) and they wanted a CT scan of my head since I hit it (the CT scan was fine). Well, patients that have immune system problems and shouldn't be sitting in the waiting room with all the sick people are put into the trauma unit when they are not busy by the ER. While I was there every patient who came in was accompanied by a cop and was obviously drunk. It became quite funny - one guy was describing the fight he was in to the nurse (of course he was winning). They also got a call that a stabbing victim was coming in and they were prepping for him but the police called back and said the victim had ran and to call them if he came to the hospital. Quite comical - it provided good entertainment for us while we were waiting.

I'm at the clinic now to get the full round of platelets, red blood cells, and chemo. My cough is gone and that has made me feel much, much better. Also, my white count today was 1.6 so we are still dropping! I have lots to be thankful for today that I didn't break anything. I get many cards that mention "God holding you in the palm of his hand" and this must be true.

As always thanks for keeping up with me and for everything you do,
Amy

  1. Wow. Sounds like an eventful day. I'm so glad you're doing okay and that you didn't have any major injuries. If anyone asks, just say "you should see what the other person looks like!". I am so glad to hear that you're feeling a little better and that your white count continues to stay down. I love you very much! Kiss your mom for me.

  3. Thanks for the update, and the explanation of the prison ward!! It's always nice to be entertained when in the ER. So glad everything worked out o.k. and that you got the full load today, maybe you'll eventually get stronger legs and be able to skip up that sidewalk!
    Love you all.

  4. Your version of the ER visit was more entertaining than your dad's email update. As is often said "you had to be there."

As I read your post my thoughts of "the entertainers" were how sad, what a waste, and they need Jesus. I'm sure the drunks, stabber, and stab victim have gifts & talents that are wasting away.

Praise the Lord for your attitude, persistence, and contribution to society. Please realize your blogging provides encouragement to others.

The ER entertainers needed to pause, be still, and learn from Amy. Please have a Tremendous Thursday, a Fabulous Friday, and a Wonderful Weekend.

Love to you & your family,

  5. Amy,

Although we don't check your blog that often, we keep up with every e-mail your dad sends out. After reading todays blog, we'll have to check it more often.

Stay on your feet and keep fighting girl! You're doing great.

Our daily prayers are with you.

    Trusting Jesus,

  7. Amy, so glad all was alright from you fall and you have "bounced" back! Good news about your WBC, glad those little boogers are staying low! Elizabeth was asking about you last night and I told her I had not checked your blog in about a week, so we decided to log on this morning. She sends her love and all her prayers. We are all keeping you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Also, Sheryl brought some of those yummy cupcakes by last night for us. I think they are already gone, except for the parts that Nicholas just licked! He says he just likes to lick the tops and we can have the rest, the girls said "no thank you"! Tell your mom and dad hello! Love, Kathy

  8. Thanks for the chuckle as I envisioned your entertainment at the hospital. Maybe the man bragging about winning his fight was wondering what the person you ran into was being treated for in the back rooms. Glad to hear the numbers are still good and your sense of humor is intact. As always, lifting you up in prayer and sending lots of love to Durham.

I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter
